PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Body Shop Technician/ Foreman is responsible for overseeing production while actively participating in vehicle repairs. This dual role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, communication skills and a dedication to maintaining high standards of work and efficiency. Damaged vehicles should be restored to pre-accident condition, following the written repair order and manufacturers guidelines. This position plays a key role in delivering our Collision promise of speed, quality and customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/DUTIES:
- Leads body shop personnel in daily operations, ensuring all work is completed to high standards.
- Willingness to accept feedback.
- Ability to coach and encourage an apprentice.
- Assists in managing workflow within the shop, ensuring efficient job allocation and optimal use of resources.
- Conduct regular quality checks and oversee the final inspection of vehicles to guarantee customer satisfaction.
- Perform auto body repairs as needed, including dent removal, part replacements, body filling, and refinishing.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues with vehicles, providing appropriate solutions.
- Assist team members with technical challenges and provide ongoing training to improve skills and knowledge.
- Coordinate with the parts department to ensure necessary parts are ordered and available for scheduled repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, time spent, and parts used for billing and inventory purposes.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- De-trims and disassembles vehicles.
- Meets on-time delivery expectations.
- Meets the return rate target.
- Adheres to all requirements for hazardous waste disposal.
- I-CAR training is mandatory and paid for by the company.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience as a Body Shop Technician with a minimum of 5 years in the field.
- Prior supervisory experience in a body shop setting is preferred but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of auto body repair techniques and tools.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must maintain a valid state driver’s license
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification in Auto Body Repair, Automotive Service, or a related field is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Extended periods of kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping to complete or inspect repairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, high levels of dust and noise in repair center.
